In the aftermath of porn star Stoya alleging that she was raped by ex-boyfriend and fellow porn star James Deen, the couple once dubbed " the Brangelina of porn " has quickly come to the forefront of a serious media storm. Deen denied that he raped Stoya , saying her claims were "egregious," but now several other women are coming forward to echo Stoya's claim. I just can't nod and smile when people bring him up anymore," she wrote on Satuday.
Time for the internet to review the other side of the story
It shouldn't take a rape accusation to prove that sex workers can be raped | Chelsea G Summers
I am completely baffled. There are public articles all over the internet, written by her, that make the exact opposite claims. She discusses how we communicated and how we were very careful with consent especially when involved with rough sex. What I do know is that Stoya and I did not have a clean break up. It was pretty messy, full of a lot of emotions and both Stoya and I are to blame for that.
As you might imagine, a porn star takes her lingerie drawer very seriously. They live here. She got her start during the mid-aughts alt-porn boom — when sites like Suicide Girls and its competitors marketed arguably feminist, certainly subcultural porn to the Vice generation — and soon had a contract with one of the most prominent porn studios in America. She became even more well known when, in according to the social-media trail , she began dating fellow porn star James Deen, who, with his sensitive good-guy image, also represented a deviation from the porn norm. But something about it really appealed to the public. Then, this past November, while on location in Serbia shooting her first big role in a non-pornographic film Ederlezi Rising, a science-fiction romance in the spirit of Her , Stoya sent out two tweets accusing Deen of rape, and it became a global news story. In the weeks and months that followed, 12 other women came forward with accusations of assault, abuse, or threatening behavior, and multiple porn studios cut ties with Deen who has maintained his innocence and has not been charged with any crimes. After the tweets, Stoya attempted to go back to business as usual.
After arriving in Serbia on 18 November to begin work on a film, she had been woken by nightmares. Just one paparazzo waited for the internationally recognisable porn performer and writer at the airport, and even he had slunk off when the production assistant sent to meet her had told him, after he asked if this was Stoya, that it was not. She spent her time awake rehearsing her role in the film: a woman who would be raped by someone that she knew. But she slept on it, and then decided. That thing sucks. A request for comment from Deen was not returned by the time of publication. They reverberated, and now the public is hearing, perhaps as loudly as ever, about the particular structural problems the porn industry contends with, and the persistent and pernicious idea that sex workers are by definition unrapeable. Finally, someone had put it out there. Back in , Raphael had done her first scene in porn with James Deen. Some years later, one of her close friends in the industry told her Deen had assaulted her.
