If there is an emotion that seems to resonate throughout the texts for this first week of our new series, it is anger. If there is an emotion that often will launch us into a wilderness experience, it is also anger. So, this seems to be where we need to begin. This series starts with a difficult word. The violence in both texts must be handled delicately, for both have been abused over the millennia to turn the faith into something it never should have been, and from which it still struggles to emerge. So, why even bother?

Glory etc. Brethren, Walk in the spirit, and you shall not fulfil the lusts of the flesh: for the flesh lusteth against ,the spirit, and the spirit against the flesh: for these are contrary one to another: so that you do not the things that you would. But if you are led by the spirit, you are not under the law.. Against such there is no law. And they that are Christ's have crucified their flesh with the vices and concupiscences. What is it to walk in the spirit? It is to obey the inspirations of the Holy Ghost always, and in all things.
